get some style
If you are a Goth, dress like a Goth. If you are a Vicar, dress like a Vicar. If you are a Goth Vicar – well, don’t ask me. Maybe ‘style’ is about those embellishments that add some individuality to our uniformity: Jeans that are slashed at the knees, daffodils hanging limply from a back pocket, a tee with pretend pockets, eyebrows that look like stiff hairy caterpillars, a cap worn upside down, a wig like a dead blackbird, glow in the dark shoes, jewellery made from beach stuff.
We don’t have to comply absolutely with our chosen style stereotype. We can decorate it so it says something about who we are.

bang your gong
When you need to promote your talents, the things you make or the great ideas you have, you may discover you lack the confidence you need to promote yourself. You may not have an aptitude for networking or a taste for manipulating opportunities. It’s not uncommon.
Many successful people work hard to overcome their natural reticence. If the self-confidence you need is missing, you will need to do what they do: grit your teeth and learn to simulate it. Let’s call it ‘acting’. It takes hard work and dedication but it will provide you with a springboard to get you to where you want to be.

start shining
If your mission in life is to attain a state of celebrity, eminence, greatness, glory or stardom in your chosen firmament you will need to shine brightly. All the stars in all the skies shine, but some shine more brightly than others; they are so distinct, conspicuous and pin-sharp that they leave a brilliant impression as they pass. Don’t plan to rely on destiny – dazzle

your star
We spend our early years gazing at the stars and wondering which to follow. Then at some point one star seems to shine extra bright; fame, love, fortune, tinker, tailor, soldier, spy – our destiny awaits.
Then the years roll on and other stars catch our eye and we wonder if we followed the wrong star and head off to a new cosmos.
If you are heading to a new cosmos, good luck!

cats and dogs
I know that there are friendly cats and unfriendly dogs. But I don’t get dogs wandering around my garden with their noses and tails in the air and I don’t get cats charging across the lawn shouting “I love you – chase me”. I guess the point is that not everyone will show you love, affection or friendship as a right. We just have to learn to work with that.
